The Reverend David J. (Joe) Boyles has been the vicar of St. Mary’s since his ordination to the priesthood by The Right Reverend John Howard in December 2013. He is a life-long Episcopalian, raised at Holy Trinity in Gainesville and confirmed in 1961 by Bishop Hamilton West.
Following high school graduation in 1966, he entered the United States Air Force Academy, graduating four years later with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a commission. His subsequent 27-year career was split between the career fields of flying and logistics. His 12 assignments included, combat flying in Southeast Asia; three overseas assignments; graduate school; and five commands at squadron and group level. He retired in 1997 as a colonel and moved with his wife Linda to Madison, Florida.
They immediately joined St. Mary’s and held numerous leadership roles before Joe was called and began study for the priesthood in 2011. Since 1997, he has managed a family held forestry business located in three North Florida counties. Joe and Linda have been married since 1970 and raised two children and are grandparents of three. He also serves on the Diocesan Common Ministry Budget Committee.
On Saturday May 6, Joanie Cruce was ordained as our newest deacon.
Rev. Joanie Cruce grew up in Baldwin, Florida and was a member of the Baldwin Methodist Church from infancy until she married and moved to Madison, Florida in 1981. Rev. Cruce has attended the First United Methodist Church and the New Home Baptist church of Madison, Florida. She became a confirmed member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Perry, Florida in 2007.
In 2015 Rev. Cruce transferred her letter from St. James Episcopal in Perry, Fl to St. Mary’s in Madison, Fl. She is the Chapter President of St. Mary and Martha’s Chapter order of the Daughters of the King, member of the church Alter Guild, and served as a vestry member.
Rev. Cruce has been a nurse for over 28 years. She received her Master’s in Nursing Degree in June 2012 from Walden University in Baltimore, MD. She has held Nursing leadership roles throughout her career. Employed as an RN with the Madison County Memorial Hospital and the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, RN Instructor, Faculty member at the North Florida Community College, Nursing Director of the Taylor county Health Department and currently employed with the Veterans Health Administration for the past 6 years.
